Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 capatibility with ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2 HELP?

I'm currently using an Asus M5A78L-M LX V2 motherboard which has a an FX 6300 (not overclocked) processor with a stock cooler keeping it cool. The bracket for this aligns perfectly my current motherboard (Asus). The ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2's bracket does not align with the Asus motherboard holes, which I found out when testing it with the 6300 but failed due to the Xtreme cooler's bracket not aligning to my current board. I will also be using this cooler on an unclocked FX-9590 and I doubt I'll be overclocking.

I'm looking into buying a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FXA + so I don't want this bracket problem I'm having with the Asus motherboard and the Arctic Freezer to happen with the Gigabyte motherboard I want as stated above. Will the bracket that comes with the Arctic Freezer align with the holes on the GA-900FXA?

Addition info: I'm currently using 2X 8GB Vengeance RAM sticks at 1600Mhz, an overcloked GTX 760 and a 650w power supply.

Thanks you for any help. I'm looking to buy this as soon as a I find out its compatibility so the faster the reply, the blessed I'd be :)

Not sure why it won't line up properly as it will work with the following sockets.

ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2 supports Intel LGA 1150 Haswell/1156/1155/1366/775 and AMD Socket FM2+/FM2/FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2/939/754.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain properly. The Xtreme cooler plugs in fine, but the holes for the screws to screw the bracket in provided by Xtreme doesn't align with the holes on the metal pate behind the motherboard, and the holes which are in all four corners around the CPU on the board. I have tried cabletieing the bracket I am currently using for the stock fan to the Xteme, but because of its size, it's impossible to screw the now attached bracket into the motherboard - even with the board completely removed.

I hope this makes more sense to you now.

Are you looking at the instructions? You don't use the new mounting plate, you use the existing plate and use the 2 metal clips to attach it to the existing plate. The new mounting plate is only for Intel installations.

Yes I did. I have attached both metal adapters to the Xtreme but it seems I'm in need of longer screws so that they will reach the metal plate at the back. Even then it's extremely (no pun intended) hard to angle the screwdriver properly because of how small the original bracket is, and how wide the cooler is. I'm starting to consider selling the cooler and just buy an AMD cooler which comes with an AMD bracket as standard. At least that way I'm guaranteed lesser problems.

The image above shows the cooler with the metal adapters attached. The adapters don't line up with the heat sink pad so I can't hook the three holes up to the original bracket. I firstly attached the original bracket to where you'd plug in your CPU. I'm just afraid that I've wasted money on this cooler and now I can't use an £170 processor without buying another one.

I just think you are doing it wrong. Don't tighten the screws on the adapters all the way until after it is attached to the back plate. Keep the plates loose so they can attach to the plate, then tighten them up.

It was a little bit of a struggle for me to get my Hyper 212 Evo on the UD3 but it fits fine now

You don't change anything on your board. The metal clips in the photo you posted (has 3 holes on each side) clip to the mounting CPU socket on the board. You hook one side then push the other side down till it snaps in place

I've already tried to firstly screw in the AMD bracket/mount into the holes placed around the CPU socket, and then tried to clip the three protruding clips into the metal clips, but as you can see from the photo, the heat sink pad is higher than the clips, so it feels almost impossible to push those clips into the holes without breaking something. This is the fundamental issue.

Because if this issue, I've decided to skint myself and buy a Corsair Hydro H80i GT CPU water cooler instead. This will be much more efficient at cooling the FX-9590 and also looks like I won't have the same problem I'm having with the Xtreme.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone!

You use the CPU bracket that's already on the motherboard. Like johnb35 said. The AMD clip that you have on the heat sink, you leave the screws loose. Then you place the heat sink on the CPU. Move the clips under the tabs on the boards bracket. Then you tighten the screws.

The bracket I'm using is the one from the motherboard. I'll definitely give this a go but the Corsair H80i GT arrives today. If I can get the Xteme to fit, I guess I at least have a backup fan, just in case.

Thanks again for all of the help. Everyone's been extremely helpful!
