Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 - IDE Cable Ribbon hole

DEFECT! DEFECT! If you are worried about it go with an Antec round cable with an extra ground wire added. Those do awayyyyyy with ribbons.

Whats so bad about ribbon cables? I like them better they fold up nicly to go in abd behide htings, and allow for better airflow :P

How do ribbon cables add for better airflow? They are like 1.5 inches, where as cables are about 1/2 inch around.

I smell sarcasm...but in the case I am wrong, heres a test. Take your thumb. That is about the width of a round cable. Now take your ring, middle and pointer finger. That is the width of a ribbon cable. Try folding your ribbon cable fingers into small cracks. Not going to happen, huh?

Try turning it the other way.......A peice of paper could have great airflow, or very little at all. It depends which why they are turned. I fold mine and put the excess behide the motherboard and in hardrive slots, and i have them face down along side things, so all it is relaly doing is adding a few extra mm to the thickness of whatever you have it against. "You just need to know how to properlly manage your IDE ribbons :P

Alot of times round ones are exessivly thinck and hard to manage and put the acess on things, and harder to fold on and run against side panels and such.

You just haven't seen enough cables to begin to understand the not only improved air circulation seen in most cases(not all have room to tuck ribbon slack down inbetween things) but being a bit more reliable due to better construction. The added ground wire seen on Antec round cables also serves to cut down the esd(electrostatic discharge) factor as well. :D

OK guys...we all know that round cables have better airflow than ribbons

If the cable works fine, then who cares if there is a hole? But yes, it most likely should go back, because that hole should not be there regardless.

I have seen plently of round cables, i prabally have a stack of twently in my closest. Everything comes with one. Mobo ahrddrives cd drives, I dont understand how they give you w3 with the motherbaord and 2 weiht the ahrddrive sometimes.....

Bare Bones kits come with ribbons

Most of the time when you order a board, drive, cd/dvd rom/burner you will always see a cable or two thrown in so that the drive is available right away. These days I simply toss those into a cardboard box in case someone has an obviously battered cable in their case. I simply say here's a new one in case you need it. From the jpg image you can't tell if that opening goes all the way through. But it looks like something sharp pressed right down it either pushing a strip out the other side or cutting it clean. Dump the cable in the recycle bin! They are only a couple of bucks at a local pc shop.
