Gmail Questoin

Hi Guys I have a simple question about Gmail.

How do you chat in Gmail because I have people who I want to chat with in Gmail but I don't know how.
 
Under quick contacts just hover your mouse over the name of the person that you want to chat with. Then a box will appear, click chat and a box in the lower righthand corner will pop up. Just type your message in the text box and there you go. Also you can download a Google Talk program here. I hope this helps.
