god please someone help im going insane

hey guys and gals, here is my problem

my PC got a virus so i rebooted everything back to normal. problem was i had downloaded a driver for my wireless internet card off some website (unknown, but probably the manufactuer) and everything was working great. after my comp crashed and i re installed it back to factory i had no internet to download that driver i was forced to find my disc..SO i found the driver disc and installed it and now im on the internet, but my problem lies in the fact that i cant open or view any other wireless networks. when i double click on my wireless network it pops up with some buttons saying "properties" and "disable" used to it also had a button that said, "view other networks" and i could click on it, and change which router i wanted to connect to. now i have no choice it only connects me to one main router. which happens to be the slowest, most further one from my PC

any help is more than apprecited!
 
if you still have the problem....

in run type in: services.msc

see if you have: wireless zero configuration

if you do have it as STARTUP TYPE AUTOMATIC
 
tried that to no avail however it was on manual so i switched it to auto here is what i see when trying to open it...

try control panel, network conections, right click, properties, wireless networks, check on "use windows to configure..."

some wireless cards will disable windows wireless connection and use their software program to connect. did you disable that program from startup? it can also be manually started in the start menu

also perhaps you used the wrong driver. are you sure it's a wifi driver and not the lan driver? is it xp compatible?
