Going to build my own.

Hello every1

This is the setup im going to use (https://gyazo.com/e5856a57541c1ae2b3d9d48b96f4c786) and I have a few questions which I hope u guys can help me with.

1. Is this setup overkill?

2. Any components that are just as good, but cheaper.

3. What could I do cheaper without meeting any problems performance-wise in the nearest future.

4. Anything u would recommend doing/ how would you optimize the build?

Thanks for your time :)

Howdy,

Depends on your usage and definition of 'overkill'

What do you use the PC for? In most gaming scenarios you can drop to a 1151 platform (6700K or 6600K) and roll the savings into a higher end video card than the 1060, which would give you higher FPS at better settings.

Is there a specific budget you have for this build?

Hey, thanks for your reply. The PC will be used for gaming :). And for what budget goes, I'm not too happy spending much more than what is already spent, not saying I can't spend another 100 dollars if that will make the build a lot better.

@Laquer Head, how much will I benefit from the 1070 compared to the 1060?

Also how long do you think I will be able to use the computer with the i5 6600K and Z170 mtherboard for?

It's a better card, faster, more Vram.. I'd say you'll appreciate it alot more than a 1060 with X99 chipset that is just overkill. Plus with a 1060 on a X99 you can't do SLI if you ever wanted to. You'd need a 1070 or higher anyhow. If you dont plan to ever run dual GPU's the X99 definitely doesn't make sense.

The longevity of the machine will carry you for several years, its a good CPU and unlocked for overclocking!!!

Thank you so much for your time answering my questions. One last question. Do you think this is a good build (if I follow ur advices)? :D

Good build is subjective... for me, I have zero use for mechanical HDDs or huge storage capacity. For me, dual SSD in RAID for my O/S and a small dual SSD in RAID for storage is plenty.

All depends on your usage and needs.

So all the components but the storage components are in your eyes pretty good, and it will be good for the next 5+ years? Oh and will i7 6700k work just as well as the i5 6600k, or will the overclocking of the i5 be better?

Don't misunderstand me, the choices you made for HDD and SSD are fine, just not for what I do/need. Every person will have different needs, I assume you need a larger drive for storage, hence the 2TB HDD choice. I personally use external drives, so a larger capacity drive in my rig is useless.

If you need the space, then that is all the matters cause it works for you!

The i7 is kinda overkill, sure its a good CPU but the i5 are cheaper and excellent in their own right. I haven't used an i7 in probably 4-5 rigs now..just don't need it!

My advice would be to determine what your needs are, and what your max budget is, then build accordingly rather than trying to use high end components that you don't actually need!
