Hey broskiis

Ive been looking into getting a solid gaming desktop for awhile. I checked out the alienware/dell/hp websites and I saw some pretty sweet rigs but I thought the cost was a bit much. Soo I decided to build my own. I have pretty much no expierience with computer hardware but I like the challenge and I've heard its really not that hard.
Anyway I did a bit of research over the past couple days and came up with this build. Let me know what you think and also if there are any compatibility problems. Any suggestions would be great too.

Graphics card: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 Superclocked EE 1024 MB DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini
Power supply: Corsair CMPSU-950TX 950-Watt TX Series
Optical Drive: Samsung Blu-Ray Combo Internal 12XReadable and DVD-Writable Drive with Lightscribe SH-B123L/BSBP
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Blue 16 GB PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 240-Pin SDRAM
Heatsink: Corsair Hydroseries H60
CPU: i7-960 Processor 3.20 GHz 8 MB Cache Socket (I plan on figuring out how to overclock it to ~ 4.0-4.2 GHz if thats possible without anything blowing up)
Harddrive: Crucial 256GB m4 SSD 2.5" SATA III
Motherbord: ASUS LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Motherboard Rampage III Formula
Tower: Cooler Master HAF 932

I plan on using this for a bit of WoW, some heavy starcraft 2 which I'd like to run on fairly high settings and stream, and some random FPS's like BF3 and MW3

I think if you got your self a i5-2500k (which would mean you would have to get a lga1155/6 motherboard) you would be alot happier because you would save almost $100, and have a more future proof board with a better chipset. And with the hundred you saved on the processor you could upgrade that GTX 460 to a GTX 560/560ti. Other than that the only thing I see is the power supply being a bit much for what you are running, which is not a bad thing but you could save more cash if you wanted something a little less powerful. But corsair is a good brand.

Agreed. A 650w is all you need for one card. And 8GB of RAM is plenty for any game out there, and if they make games that handle more, you can always add more for cheap.

Do you really need a 256GB SSD? That's a nice chunk of change. Most people get a 32/64/120GB SSD and get a storage drive for games.

A nice aftermarket air cooler is a lot more easier to set up than a liquid cooled one, and the temps won't be that much different unless you are doing benchmarks and overclocking it a lot.

Ok, I'll downgrade the power supply to 850w (Incase I want to SLI in the future).
I looked at the i5 2500k and that looks pretty solid too, would it be able to run pretty consistently/smoothly overclocked at 4-4.2 MHz?

You said it would require a lga1155/6 motherboard, any suggestions on that?

I was considering the 128GB, but that doesnt seem like a whole lot of space, unless I had like a second standard internal harddrive to save less important things too (if thats possible?)

Also whats the difference between the nvidia gtx 560 and 560ti

That cooler, with the 2500K and that case would easily be able to push 4.5ghz daily. Even mine, with a crappy case and cooler I managed to hit 4.6ghz.

You would need a 1155 board. Look for a z68 chipset from brands like Gigabyte or MSI. (just my favorite brands.)

Yes, if you look at my build, I fit all of windows 7 on my 32GB SSD and put games/big programs on my 750GB mechanical drive.

can you repost the current build no but with what they've said it sounds great so far, just easier to check that you've followed all advice this way.
