good "big finger" gaming mouse

I have big long fingers.... I know... I know....

I want a good 3+ button gaming mouse, but the buttons are higher on the side instead of down or the entire side like the Microsoft one I tried.... (hit the buttons just gripping the mouse)

I saw a Saitec(sp?) 1600 DPI that looked pretty decent, but unsure of quality.

any leads? small buttons ok... 3 buttons are good even, must have scrolling wheel/something like it.

You're not the only one with longer fingers and cramped with "little mice". One MS Trackball Explorer became the solution here.

My brother has the mouse and it is very nice. I have fairly big hands for a 15 year old and it works nice. Unsure though about if you'll like it for your hands.

do you FPS? work well? how hard was it to go from a mouse to trackball in games?

I wasn't after fps when first looking over that model. At this time you would have to go to Amazon.com or some other site since Microsoft seems to have discontinued them. At this point a standard mouse even an optical model feels like a little kid's toy. This one is certainly different where you use your thumb instead of left index finger to press the left click button. And your hand stays stationary instead of worrying about a mouse pad sliding around.

Besides the MS lineup they have now Logitech has some good models to look over. Here's a look at both MS and Logitech models in case you spot one of interest like one Logitech cordless model seen lately.

The Logitech model that caught notice here is the cordless Optical Trackman seen at http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2150,CONTENTID=5006

have a look at the razer boomslang 21000dpi its a ball mouse but dont let that put you of it has two very long and wide buttons and is great for gaming

you know... dpi doesnt say everything... its merely something they like bragging about in commercial's to make their mice sell better..
the trackball i use atm has about 800dpi if im not mistaken ( perhaps even lower) and i can move my pointer 1 pixel in windows if i want to.. i mean,. thats accurate enough.. since on screen you cant see the difference.
(perhaps in games it counts a bit more, since youre working in 3D then.. but still, there are limit's. )
for example.. what i've read about the MX Revolution so far, it only has 800dpi, and its absolutely precisely (even in games).

anyhow, for the topic, Logitech MX518 My dad uses that one, and its quite nice, its also pretty good for him (and he does have big hands too :) )
and also, Logitech MX Revolution Its BIG, and perfect for people with big hands.. but the downside (obviously) its expensive ;)

I would say with two not one scroll wheels on the MX Revolution model there. The one Logitech trackball model that was available to look at in retail stores when first looking at this type over the cheap standard models was the Marble Mouse seen at http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2150,CONTENTID=5003

The one thing I can't stand about stand about the MS line now is that they seem to have done away with having "any" trackball mice to offer. Time to go to Amazon.com apparently! :P

Saitek's quality is pretty good. I had an X36 (gameport version) that worked very well up to a few months ago. It probably would still be good if I could clean the pots.

The Logitech G5 is nice as well.

thanks for the direction, I'm not hug up on the DPI, I've been using a corporate perk "freebie" two button+clickable scroll optical mouse for years, no idea the DPI (probably industry minimum), works very well, but the buttons are dying/loosing springback after 3+ years of gaming use..

I kinda figured if I was going to get a new one, I'd step up a bit, its hard spending $50 on a mouse after a freebie was so good.

i know what you mean... all my keyboards were free so far.. when my old one boke down, i decided to buy a G-15.. wich is 85 euro's here  its a load of money.. but I havnt regretted it so far :)

These days you pay more for feeatures first and then quality compared to simply paying for a quality model. The links posted earlier only show a small fraction of the total makes and models to choose from. But they seem to be a pair of the better brands there.
