Good computer with lots of ram?

I need a computer for my little home studio I need lots of ram and would prefer a laptop but it doesn't have to be and does anyone know if u can add ram to a laptop? Or only desktops? Any help is appreciated

Note:
1. my home studio isn't video its a recording studio and the programs i run my midi controllers and such through take up a lot of space i need a lot of space on this computer i will take up much more than 8 GB in no time at all and i need names of computers that have lots of space on them but they don't start slowing down when they get full of recordings, and i have a friend who can add ram. so that is also an option.

2. Well first of all i am only 15 so my budget is limited. i do have an old desktop that could work as long as i upgrade space. but i would like a laptop in order to be able to go to a friends house and record some vocals or guitar. and it would just be nice to be able to take it home with me to continue working on my tracks. as u can see i don't know that much about computers and would really appreciate any help and or suggestions that you can give to me on what would be my best option. Could u also tell me those systems to build a internal thingy haha?

When you say your budget is limited, do you have a dollar amount that you want to spend, and what the maximum you can spend is?

You can get what you want in laptop form, but for what you get (hard drive capacity, RAM, processing power, etc.), you will spend more for a laptop than a similarly priced desktop. For your needs the first thing I can see being a problem is hard drive space. Since you have a limited budget, no matter what laptop you get you will probably need to upgrade the hard drive if space is a huge concern, you can buy a 1TB drive for $70.

You can upgrade the memory in most laptops (exclusions being the new MacBook Pro Retina's, MacBook Air, etc.), but if you get a used or low end laptop the amount of RAM you can utilize will be lower.

Start by giving us some numbers and we can find some laptops and desktops for you. My definition of limited will be different from yours, and other members here.
