Dell Inspiron 15 laptop
Intel Core i3-3217U CPU @ 1.80GHz
753 MHz, 2.64 GB of RAM with Win XP Pro

Should I upgrade an i5 processor or RAM?? What is more important for a laptop, RAM or Processor Speed? People are telling me that I should get an i5 or i7 not RAM

What do you think?

A Inspiron 15 doesn't come with XP Pro nor anything that has to do with 753 MHz.

Since it came with Vista at first, some would let you still get XP. That is unless he is wrong or installed XP later. Plus the 753mhz. is the downclocked speed at idle.

As far as the processor would need the model number. They made about 13 different models of the Inspiron 15. If you have XP 32bit your not going to get much more memory in use. Hardware addresses and onboard video eats up a lot of the just 4gb that it supports.

No. Its not good enough for heavy multi-tasking. Or video editing. Unless you enjoy waiting. Because you will be doing alot of that.

You need both RAM and an i7 if you want results. That machine is not gonna give you results in a timely manner.

My advice, if your looking for video editing either scrap that machine and get a better one or live with it.

An i5 should be OK for video editing too.

But yeah, you need to upgrade if you want to do 'heavy video editing'.

If you're only intending to make slideshows in Windows Movie Maker though, then this PC will be OK. :)

Should do this just fine, anything else and you might as well watch paint dry in a can with the lid on.

haha. We have Core2Duos at my work. Not sure exactly what they have in them, Dells, but my god they take a lifetime to do ANYTHING. But, as with most places IT really doesnt keep the systems clean so Im sure they get clogged up and get slower and slower.

I edit on an Inspiron 15R

TAKE THIS FROM ME: IT WON'T BE THE BEST.

I have trouble with my laptop doing video editing, as render times are atrocious in Sony Vegas. I haven't tried After Effects yet, but will when my wifi card is working again. Considering your specs are worse since it isn't the 15R N5110, I don't know exactly what your render times will be, and if you'll be pleased...

Render time: 1 minute long 720p video @ 6Mbps takes about 40 minutes..

TLDR: The regular 15 isn't gonna cut it.. The 15R (N5110) barely makes it decent in Sony Vegas
