Good just internet browsing computer?

Well, as some of you may know I am trying to sell my main computer. And if I do I will still need like a good just internet browing computer. So I was thinking, would I be better just like selling my monitor and like everything, and build like a HTPC build and then have a wireless keyboard and mouse and buy like a nice bigger 40 in TV for my room and hook it up to a VGA port? I'm looking to keep it cheap. But I don't know how much a HTPC build would be, like 400-500 I guess? Looking for a Intel C2D with maybe 2 gigs of ddr2-ddr3 ram, I guess a graphics card doesn't really matter.

You can browse the web on any old thing - My Compaq Evo laptop works great - 768MHz Pentium 3 @ 384MB RAM - and Firefox flies on it, as well as Chrome and Opera. No issues watching videos, etc. I would check Craigslist - there's bound to be someone selling an old computer for $100 or less that would be fine for surfing the web.

Why would you go for HTPC? And a 40" TV? I thought you wanted to save money?

It seems like you might want a normal $400-500 HP type pre-built computer from any store. No htpc though. The Diamond AIW is selling for $49 locally and would turn a comp into an HTPC.

To be honest I'm not exactly sure what a HTPC build is :) I thought it meant Home Theater Personal Computer? So I would be watching thousands upon thousands of Youtube videos on it. It would also be used for listening to music, and watching movies, no games though. I want a 40" tv because to me it makes internet browsing amazing.

Yeah, that's kind of what I want Daisy, because I do need a laptop, so any sugestions that I could hook a laptop up to a about a 40" 1080p VIA HDMI cable? With 7.1 surround sound?

Sound card - Is 5.1 OK for you? Those brand with 7.1, i am not familar with

And with $500, you probably go for Pentium dual core? (I do recommend core i3 if you got money)
