Good Mobo for this compuzzler?

So, I'm pretty much a nublette. My step-dad built this machine for me three years ago or so and I just watched... I haven't even seen the inside of a computer since. But, I spend probably 75% of my time on my PC either gaming or doing video work... so, I can tell when I need an upgrade. I talked to my friend Drenlin (who I found through the Steam group on this site!) and he helped me understand a few basics.

My specs are as follows:

Operating System
MS Windows 7 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Kentsfield 65nm Technology
RAM
6.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 533MHz (8-9-9-25)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5E3 Deluxe (LGA775)
Graphics
NS-L322Q-10A (1920x1080@60Hz)
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 (ATI)
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 (ATI)
CrossFire Disabled
(The card shows up twice because it has two-in-one, I guess. I only have one card, though.)

Hard Drives
488GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAJS-22TKA0 ATA Device (SATA)
977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EACS-00D6B1 ATA Device (SATA)
977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EACS-00D6B1 ATA Device (SATA)
977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EACS-00D6B0 ATA Device (SATA)
977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EACS-00ZJB0 ATA Device (SATA)

I'm thinking a good CPU choice for my total budget of around $300 is this. But, Drenlin tells me I'll need a new Mobo, too. So, what do you guys think is a good choice?

Thanks! :3

yes it requires a new mobo, but the problem is that at 300 you'd be skimping on the mobo a little too much, about 120 would get you a decnt one, but the os is liscenced to the mobo, so unless you have a retail copy then you will have to buy a new one which is another 100

Thanks... But, I'm looking for actual links. Do you copy and paste that microsoft key thing on every mobo thread? Haha. I have a boxed copy and can get it transferred.

People tend to forget the software side of the computer, and a lot of people don't know that windows doesn't like new mobo's.

I would be suprised if this upgrade is worth the money given your current set up. Overclock that Q6600.

As said you need a new mobo to support a cpu worth buying, but everything else you have will work in the mobo, including the DDR3 (assuming that isnt a typo), Ill find some links in a sec:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103961 AMD FX-8120 (8 core) $219.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767 ASUS M5A97 $99.99

I know that is slightly more than the $300.00 but you could save it bit here and there, drop to the 6 core cpu for example or put some more on the mobo and have that supports crossfire in at least x8 mode.

You could also go for that link you posted but you would again need a new mobo but with intel it is more expensive as I would imagine you would want the Z68 chipset or the P67, and they cost more meaning you may have to settle for a diff brand, I have heard good things about asrock on this forum, but as I have never owned one I find it hard to recommend, but nevertheless here is one that seems good:
