Good Monitor for someone who is legally blind?

Hello all,
My girlfriend is legally blind and even though we currently have a Samsung 23" monitor she still has to sit inches away from the screen to read text.

Her birthday is coming up and I would like to make it easier for her and buy her a larger monitor. I have my eye on this 30" Ultrasharp but the price tag is too hefty for me.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative? Would I be better buying an LCD tv like this LG 42"?

kinda silly question....but glasses?

and on size...size isnt going to help, turn down the screen resolution or go into the windows settings for user accessability and adjust for her eyesight, i think theres a dpi setting you can use for her. that would be more useful
