good processor for rendering

which of these processors should my roommate get. he is looking to render architecture models in rhino. he also wants to use 3D studio and revit. hes not interested in overclocking. he also wants to get the nvidia quatro 1800 if that makes any difference.

we were also wondering if L3 cache and hyperthreading will make any difference when it comes to rendering.

1055T, overclock it to the 1090T clocks(quite easy to do, even on stock cooler), and save $100. Best performing processor for the price for multithreaded applications.

FYI, the nvidia quadro 1800 is a waste of money unless the application is utilizing quadro specific features. If the application uses CUDA or OpenCL, he is better off getting something like the GTX 460 1GB which is cheaper and quite a bit more powerful than a quadro 1800.

thanks for the help. he is also wondering if intel processors still use hyper threading and if that will help lower the rendering time. if hes doing ray tracing (v-ray) should he only be focusing cpu processing or is the video card more important?

Eventually, the GPU will become a factor but at the current point in time, CPU processing power is what is important.

Hyperthreading creates virtual threads, they can help with rendering but won't be nearly as effective as actual cores. Real world testing has shown the Phenom II x6, especially once overclocked, beats out the i7 920 at a lower price point for these applications.
