Does anyone have any recommendations for how best to do webcam chat? I tried yahoo messenger, and omg, am I horrified. It came with so much crap ... it even stuck a yahoo toolbar into my firefox!! :( I feel like my computer was mutilated. The only other free way to do this, that I know of, is Windows Live Messenger ... but I'm afraid of using that, too. It can't possibly be a neat and trim software without extra crap oozing out the edges either, can it?? It will probably be not as bad as this yahoo junk, though. Okay the third option I know of is getting Trillian Pro (which I'm confident won't let me down), but it's $25! =\.

Anyone know any other alternative??

I didn't see the choice not to when I was installing it ...
hmm I really dislike aim also (the new version) for much the same reasons. And I was also told that aim only does "video chat", which is like webcam without the audio part; you still have to type, in other words. Don't know though.
But thanks for the reply

I use Windows Live Messenger and it is fine. It does not install extra crap. Also, in the settings, you can disable it from automatically starting when Windows starts and you can also change settings so it doesn't show you palettes you don't want.

I'd give it a try before you buy something. I use it to video chat often and it's fine. You can also maximize the video to fit on your entire screen if you want (not all programs can do that).

Hey, does skype always have that really small video window as in the setup? I haven't tried using it with another person; I only messed around with it myself. But when I go to options, then the "video settings", it has a window showing what my webcam sees. But it's quite small. Is it the same size when you actually chat? Because I want it to be bigger. The webcam does 640x480 resolution, but that little window is much smaller than that. So my question is, is the video window bigger than that when I actually chat?
Thanks
