this is my system:

-core 2 due e6600
-gigabyte ds3 mobo
-7900gs geforce
-1gb PNY pc5300
-2 IDE HDs, 120gb
-DVD writer, CD-ROM

i do plan to OC my cpu, which is why i'm also buying the big typhoon heatsink for it. i just need 2 things:

1. advice, is this a good setup? any recommendations or words of advice?
2. a good psu. i know a 500w would probably be ample, but it depends on who you are buying from. let me know some examples of good ones to go with this setup. thanks.

Stay with the 7900gs, it'll perform better for the price, if you have 250$+ get a 8800gts which beats the 7900gs

yeah i would like an 8800gts, but really for the price the 7900gs will be fine for me. i already bought the RAM. actually i got it for $60 on a weekend closeout sale at best buy. i figured i wouldn't find much of a better deal on RAM for a while.

Go with the 8600GTS gfx card. Go with PC6400 RAM, leap for SATA HD's.

As for a PSU look for the Corsair 520W

8600GTS is for people desperate for DX10, its been proven that a single 1950PRO makes piss of the new 8600GTS. imo, waste of money.
stay with the 7900gs, if not go for 7900gt.

Corsair's HX520 is a good one to start with there! But PNY memory? That's only good for a low end system for "checking the mai"! Some better memory like Corsair's xms series, Mushkin, Kingston's Hyper X, and some others would be a far better choice there.

Vista with both DX10 and DX9 are running on an MSI Radeon X1300 Pro 256mb PCI-E card here with no problems! You buy a high end card for high end graphics and the extreme gaming type system. So you know that spending a fortune just to run DX10 is...? Take a look at the card used here to see that DX is a set of 3D rendering drivers even with Vista having 10. Cost and the type of build are what to look at there. Someone may be able to save even more $$$ then first thoiught. :D
