Good, Quiet Fans

i've been trying to get the 800rpm myself... sold out everywhere.
there also is a 500rpm one at 5dba or something.

and they're sold at different speeds because not everyone knows how to control fans.

So I really could just take the fastest one and adjust it myself...

While I'm here, anybody know any program I could use that would be able to, say, be able to listen to my microphone and average out, or real-time, for sound levels? I want to use it to find differences in sound level (like in Decibels or just relative) of my PC when I play around with the fans. This way I won't have to buy a Sound Meter...

EDIT: Never mind, I found this: DSSF3, downloaded the trial, does exactly what I wanted it to do.

Anybody would like to suggest other fans?

you might want to watch out with using a fan controller or something like that.
Some fans actually make more noise when you slow them down...
can't find it anywhere in the specs of the fan you'll just have to find out on your own or read reviews about them.

Well, I could speed it up! ;)

I'll email Scythe's technical support, see what they says. Mean while, if someone find any reviews, I would be most greatfull if you would share your sources.

thanks

i use a fan controller.
this one
plain simple, just some leds behind the control buttons who get brighter the harder the fans spin.

that way i won't have something like speedfan running in the background (like to keep that to a minimum).
and you can always adjust your fans speed. If it's just idling you can turn them down.
otherwise, gaming or something else demanding alot of your pc you can turn them up.

Good news, I got a reply from Scythe.

Scythe said:
[...]To answer your question,
Yes, the fans speed can be altered by the fan controllers, however the range
are not wide as the fans made for it. (PWM fans)
I would say 300~400 RPM + or - would be the range available,
I have had no problem altering the fan speed down to 1300RPM with SFF21F,
and yes the noise level decrease along with the RPM,[...]

sounds nice :)
i actually got my scythes in yesterday (1900 rpm)

also ordered some nexus real silent fans, they should be the best when it comes to quiet fans. going to put them to test which is more silent and which produces more airflow.

the nexus will probably outperform the scythe :P
just read some reviews about the nexus...
is pretty much seen as the best silent fan out there

i just tested the 2 and it's pretty easy....
FOR GOD SAKES TAKE THE NEXUS!!!
i don't know about the other scythe models but the 1900rpm is like a tornado coming right through your house.... and you lower the speed by using a fan controller it starts making a reall annoying sounds like there's a piece paper in the fan....

The nexus on the other hand is pretty much inaudible at any speed. At high speed you might hear a very very slight woosh in your case. But the surroundings absolutely have to be completely silent.

The Scythe does generate more airflow... but what do you expect from a tornado.

btw, they both come together with fan decouplers... those rubber bolts to not let them transfer vibrations to the case. Scythe delivers crappy hard rubber bolts (i already tore 2 of them apart)
nexus delivers nice soft silicon bolts works great :D

Ok thanks for the info. To bad you didn't have a Nocuta to compare too!

yea... well the cpu fan i've got (stock fan for scythe infinity) was the most quiet fan in my system... now it's the loudest :P
i've got more than 8 120mm fans lying around now... didn't feel like buying another one.
