good up/down load speed

Upload isn't bad, but your download sucks.
My is 2700 ( aproximately ) each time is different depending on connection and the part of the day.
Upload is 700 ( mine ) which I know is bad in front of my download, but personally I think that speed counters are shit.
 
What sort of speeds are these? Are these what you actually get with torrents or other files? Or just the rated speeds.

As for the OP, those speeds seem alright, however it really depends if you are using the internet for lots of multimedia, or just checking your e-mail and browsing the web.

You could call them rated speeds, however to be precise it is your download/upload speed, just in different terms.

For instance, if you have 512Kb download, you will only download at 64KBps (note the B and b).
 
Oh. So rated speeds are usually in bits but data storage is in bytes? And that explains the difference? Do you always download at your max though? I don't think I've ever gone above 700Kilobytes per second on I believe an 8 megabit connection.
 
Yeah, true, you can rarely download with your max speed, it all depends on activity on the net and on your current speed which falls down when it's raining and sth.

Thats exactly it.

You don't often download at the max speed, because the rated speeds are assuming that there are ideal conditions and that you live very close to the ISP. In reality however, distance from the ISP plays a pretty significant role in the actual rates, as well as the wiring in your home and between you and the ISP (some towns have really old phone lines in place).
