Google and Gmail?

So I turned on my computer today, and google and gmail are not working at all. All other websites work fine, except for yahoo which was going really slow (and was also the only other search engine I tried), but I tried to update my SpyBot S&D and it wasn't connecting to the internet even though I was using it at the time. What is wrong? I don't have any illegal programs to get viruses from or anything, and I like to think my computer is relatively safe. What is wrong?

PS: I saw the thread a couple threads down with someone having the same problem, but theirs had something to do with a USB drive I think? The only flash drive I use I use on my Linux run laptop that doesn't really use the internet (7 years old), so I don't think that's what it is...

well i'm sure google wasn't down, as that would probably mean the end of the world :-p anyway what it was was probably a problem with a dns server somewhere that was supposed to translate your request for the website you punched in to the IP address of the server(s) on which google is stored so it didn't retrieve the page you wanted. These issues rarely have anything to do with your own computer (as long as other web pages still work) perhaps your isp was having issues with their own dns server. Who knows. Typically these issues get fixed relatively fast, is it still not working?
