Google Chrome for Windows xp

Hi,
My granddaughter wants me to install Chrome on my computer; but I've discovered that Chrome no longer supports Windows XP. I've found several sites that sport links supposedly to Windows XP versions of Chrome; but they all lead to the latest version, which refuses to install. Do I have any options here?
Thanks,
.... john

Chrome support for XP ends this month. The only decent browser that still supports XP is Firefox. I do however, recommend getting an updated system as soon as possible. Find one with windows 7, 8 or 10.

Hi John,
I will probably leave Windows and go to Linux when I change my OS. However, I'm not 'quite' ready to do that. But for now I want to install Google Chrome so that my granddaughter can do her school work. She NEEDS Chrome, not Firefox, or any other browser. Same question. Is there a way that I can get/install a version of Chrome on Windows XP?
Thanks,
...... john

Yes, there is a valid reason to say that she needs Chrome. Her school is using it as their browser of choice.

what she needs is a newer operating system.if xp doesnt support chrome, and she needs chrome, ergo, she needs a newer os.i was as loyal to xp an anyone but ive been off it for almost 4 years now.you have really answered your own question.

Then you have 2 options and thats to update that machine to windows 7 if possible since it runs XP, or buy a cheap used machine.

The only thing Chrome has that other browsers do not (modern ones) is the V8 JavaScript engine. Unless your granddaughter is writing client side web applications that are only compatible with Google Chrome, then I don't see the issue. The developers were not like "Hey, better stop supporting Windows XP for a laugh!", they are doing it as Windows XP does not support the features they need to implement, as it is a dieing operating system. It is not supported with updates anymore, so it is insecure. It is like using a 16th century lock and expecting 21st century keys to fit it.

Check to see if your granddaughters' school supports Microsoft Dreamspark. You might be able to get a copy of Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 from there, otherwise you will have to put up with it I am afraid.

Just because it's their browser of choice does not mean she NEEDS Chrome.

iirc Safari uses Webkit. Chromium probably has builds too.

Although, hooray for a school that finally doesn't think it has to use internet explorer.

My primary school, first highschool, second highschool (as I moved), College/Sixth Form AND my university are all/were all using IE :/

Hi all,
I'm sorry. I guess I haven't make myself clear. Does anyone know where, or if, I can get a version of Chrome that will work on Windows XP? Whether the school is justified in requiring Chrome is not the issue. THAT is what they use, and (as a result) THAT is what she needs.
Thanks,
...... john

Guess we haven't made ourselves clear either. Chrome DOES NOT support XP anymore. The browser isn't safe to use. You can continue to use it but you'll get bugged every often saying its not supported.

looks like the op has washed his hands of us.bottom line is not that she needs chrome for xp,but, rather she needs an os that supports chrome.how many kids nowadays have a computer running xp???

I don't understand why it is a requirement.

I mean, unless the school is using Google Chrome because they have some poor software that is written using non-standardised JavaScript constructs such as a for(foo in bar){ } foreach loop that IE or Firefox is not compatible with.

@Shinnen. If it is that much of an issue, download an ISO of Android-x86, as it is free. Go to http://www.android-x86.org/download to get it. The ISO you want is the 5.1 Live Image (this one). Burn the image to a DVD and then boot from it. It will install Android on the system. Chrome comes with it as standard.

Just like modern car parts probably wont work with a Ford Anglia[sup][Citation needed[/sup], modern software will not work with an old OS. It is just one of those things about computers you have to accept. To be honest, when Windows was prompting you on XP to upgrade as that Windows version was being deprecated, you probably should have upgraded.

If you don't wanna pay for the OS, you want to use either Linux, BSD, or Android x86 (which, yes, I know it is Linux).

You could take a look at ReactOS. I think that is still going.

TL;DR you wont get chrome to work, so there is no point bothering. It wont work for a reason. Because it is not compatible. Not because they think it would be funny.

Maybe if you try explaining WHY you need Chrome, we can try and help. Otherwise, we cant do anything else.

That's kind of a narrow viewpoint and one for someone who isn't particularly well versed in technology. What specific application is she using that will only function on chrome?

The solution here is to get off of XP. You can run Chrome in Linux on a LiveCD (like Ubuntu) if you need something in a pinch.
