google chrome problem

I have a laptop, about five years old, has Windows 8.11. It recently had a complete power failure. I just got it working again and after booting up I noticed there were websites I couldn't get to; claimed the website was not responding. Amazon, ebay and some others like my banking website. Google, google mail, youtube, wikipedia and of course this one computerforum.com. No matter which website it "stalls" on, the message is the same:

I've tried resetting Google Chrome settings to default settings but that doesn't fix it. I have not yet loaded a Norton utility for firewall so I know I don't have to consider that. Obviously, my internet connection is OK to be able to come here and post.

There is just some website addresses I can go to, can access, and then others I cannot. And I can see the rhyme or reason. Just yet. I can't see any commonality among those websites that are accessible or any commonality of those I cannot access. No clue as to what makes this happen.

Something got "changed" since the time the power supply failed and when I re-established power. I know I did not do anything to cause a change. A lot of software problems seem to occur with this characteristic.

Has anyone ever had this type of problem, where some websites can be accessed but others don't?

Make sure the time and date down by the clock in the task bar is set correctly. If the date is wrong, a lot of websites won't work.
