Google new sign in scheme renders older version of MS Outlook unusable?

Received a notice from Google about their new sign in technology that my MS Outlook 2010 will not be able to use. Anyone know more about this?

Seems like they're disabling basic POP/IMAP style of auth since it's just credential based.
