google search box / default search setting up

I've just bought a little netbook with a tiny screen. I want to make the best use of the screen for web browsing. I'm aware that in XP I can press f11 to get rid of the top bars but I want to organise the tool bars for when they're showing on the screen.
I've got rid of the yahoo tool bar in order to remove on line of buttons, and I tried the google toolbar but it was much the same and added back that bottom row. What I'd like to do is get hold of just a search box which I can integrate into one of the top rows that I already have. I'm aware that on previous xp computers I've been able to drag the rows of buttons about but it doesn't seem to work on this one. I was able to alter the length of the address bar and then drag buttons onto different levels.
Our pc at work has a small google search box which is always showing, how do I get this kind of thing ??

Thanks

Most addon toolbars especially Google and Yahoo leave you vulnerable to adwares, spywares, etc. You can simply remove bars while not removing them by simply right clicking the IE bar itself and clicking items to either check them off or make them vanish from view.

The bottom item is for customizing the layout of buttons displayed on the menu bar like forward, back, refresh, stop, home, tools, help, etc. there. With an addon bar when visible most will see a small dropdown tab for settings.

For alternative toolbars free of bugs and still providing a small search window two found good were the Infospace toolbar and recent AVG security bar. Those allow you to select from a list of search engines and even select another not on the list they come with.

Besides being able to run searches from the address bar in IE you can unlock all bars and move one onto the same row as another like links sharing space with the menu bar as an example. The option for locking or unlocking is also seen in the right click menu.

Thanks very much for the advice, I'll have look at some options and see if I can arrange the buttons to take up less room on the screen

Remember to uncheck the "Lock the toolbars" item when going to rearrange things and once set recheck it. I get cramped at times having the menu, links, AVG security bars one above the other while providing ready access.
