Right just been around a mates house as they are having problem booting up into the OS.

The PC is a old thing, specs...

(Celeron 2.3, 256 SD RAM, 80GB HDD, 300w PSU, midi case)

Right now the problem...

When you turn it on it beeps, posts, starts to load the OS (WinXP symbol with bar underneath it) then reboots! Just before it reboots it flashes a blue screen of death, but it happens so quickly you cant read it. Tried pressing the pause button on it but don't work. Took bits out, gave it a clean, reseated the DIMM, swapped ribbon cables, cleared the CMOS, tried different molex connector for HDD. But still doing the same thing. It will reboot every time at that point too, like a power trip or summin, same thing in safe mode too.

Anyone got any ideas on the prob?

Cheers in advance ppl,
Steve

Did you look at the heat sink to see if it was clogged with dust?

It is possible some malicious software destroyed your boot files. Does he have a Windows recovery disk?

Cheers for the reply. Yes I had a look in the case and wasn't to bad for dust.

Think the next thing to try is the recovery console, cheers again will let ya know the out come.

Good Luck with that.. Try to boot with jump drive or floppy disc if there's one.. Then format everything hehe. Just kidding... I don't have that experience yet. I had same problem like that like two or three years ago.
