Howdy everyone, I purchased a toshiba satellite pro M10 laptop which i am quite happy with it! It is used ofcourse but in great working condition with just a very few scrathces on the lid which i really dont mind. Anyways there is one lil (or hopefully not big) problem though with the laptop. I am hoping someone can help. When i open the lid or screen it feels very stiff about halfway opening it. and the same with closing it. When you look at the back of the laptop, the left speaker is not quite sitting righ and there is a gap between the speaker and the laptop, the right speaker is sitting just fine on its housing. Also on the left hand side where the screen attaches (i guess the hinge) it looks like as if its not sitting right and its just a little higher then the left side, so i am guessing that a part of the hinge or the screen is somewhat dislocated. I can send pics if need be. I am just wondering if this is a comon problem and if it can be fixed easily? i mean to me it doesnt look like a problem that would be too hard to fix but i am just a bigenner and i really don't know. I went to best buy and future shop and both wanted to charge me 40 dollars just to look at it and they told me that since there is no warranty they may not be able to get the parts needed to fix it. I don't know what i should do. Is there any advice? i mean i can live without fixing it but my concern is that if i dont fix it it may get worse and demage the actual screen over time. Like i said screen works perfectly fine so i want to avoid having the screen being demaged if i keep it this way.

Thanks for your help,
Nico

PS: if there is anyone from vancouver area here, would you know of a good place that will repair laptops? thanks again!

I forgot to also add that when i open the laptop and look at the back the speaker is seated just fine on its housing but when it is closed the speaker is off by maybe 2 mm

Well if it bothers you, you can try to get it checked out, but if it's not a biggie, then I would just live with it. Since you say that you're a beginner, I wouldn't try ripping it apart. To get to the hinges, you'll have to lift off the keyboard, maybe a couple plastic coverings (between keyboard and display)and then see where the hinges are seating in the back. I wouldnt recommend this. If it's a major problem, I would pay the $40 for them to rip it apart, and of course, any other components that need to be replaced and the labor used to replace it won't be covered in that $40. So it can add up.

Howdy, well i am not sure if it is a major prob or not. I found a place (compusmart) who said they would charge me 45 to look at it but if i decided to have it repaired those 45 would go towards the parts and labour but i imagine then they will kill me on the labour if not for the parts! I just took it to best buy and they guy looked at it and took the panel out but couldn't remove the speakers even though he took out the screws. It looks like the hinge is underneath the speakers. He said it could just be that a screw is loose which is holding the hinge and it has to be tightened but like me he couldnt see bellow the speakers so it could or it could not. I think though i may go and have it checked out because i hate that feeling, it really feels like i am forcing the screen and that it will brake anytime! arghh.

Okey I took my laptop to compusmart which seemed to have the cheapest price although a bit more expensive then best buy but i got the feeling that best buy people don't really know what they were doing. Wish me luck on not being that expensive though. The gentlemen told me it could be anywhere from 45 dollars to 200! If its just the screw loose on the hinge (like they told me it might be) then it will just be 45 bucks but they said if i have to replace the casing it could be up to 200 canadian dollars so i am praying for the first situation. But atleast whatever it costs i will be able to sleep at night not having to think wether my laptop screen will break one day. And these people are authorized toshiba service so i think they know what they are doing.

PS: even though i think 45 dollars for tightening a screw seems like alot of money, some of the other stores wanted a minimum of 85 dollars! Dang

howdy everyone, Just got my laptop back from repair. It works great and very happy althought the entire repairs cost me 180 canadian, the brake hinge on the right was completely broken in 2 peices! He told me if i continue like that i might end up braking the casing in which i dont have the money to repair that plus the hinges so i guess paying for the labour and parts now is prob better then later when and if the casing brakes. Either way i am very sattesfied now with this laptop! Thanks to all for your help!.
