GPT parition, cant install

Hi !
I Need help. I got computer and the guy had to send me a new hard drive because the one he put in it didn't boot. So I get the new one, install it and it still wont boot, I put in the windows 8 disc, it tells me it cant install due to the disc is GPT, I get instructions to select the 'NEW' option, but I cant select it, I can see it, but not click on it. any help?? thanks!!

You would either have to wipe the drive clean or use the guides here, provided you can put the drive into another computer already running windows 7 or higher.

I can get into the Command Prompt, but it says X:Source:
Repair says the partition is locked

In command prompt do the following:

X:\Source>DiskPart

Once DiskPart starts:

list disk
select disk # (with # as the number for the drive you want from the list)
clean
exit

Then try to install Windows.

Are you able to download an iso of gparted and use it to convert it to mbr?

it says it completed the steps. I still cant install and when I try to repair computer it tells me the partition where windows is located is locked

You need to totally wipe the drive and start over. You can download kill disk or dban and create a bootable cd to do this. If you don't know how then have a friend that knows computers do it for you.

Voyagerfan gave you those steps, not me. As I said, you need to wipe the drive using other software.

Boot windows, delete partition, and install windows without creating a new partition or formatting.
