GPU Advice needed

Hi guys

I’m in need of some advice. I’m working on an upgrade for my system, I’m at work so I can’t check exact details but my current set up is;

AMD x64 Dual Core (2.2ghz I think)
4gb RAM
9600GT
24” Benq LED Monitor @ 1920x1080

I’m aiming for:

3.3ghz AMD Phenom II x4 850 CPU
8GB DDR3 PC10600 1333mhz RAM
Gigabyte M68MT-S2P AM3 mobo
Same Monitor

But I’m not sure which GPU to go with, I have around £130 left to spend and am wavering between:

XFX ATI Radeon 6850 HD 800MHz 1GB PCI Express 2.1 HDMI
Or
Evga NVIDIA GeForce GTX550Ti 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express2.0

I’m not even sure if the GTX550 will even fit in the motherboard (I don’t know much about the difference between PCI-E 2.0 & 2.1

The reason for the upgrade (other than because it’s a bit overdue) is to make the most out of Star Wars The Old Republic.

Any help would be appreciated.

there is no difference in 2.1 and 2.0 as far as compatibility is concerned. If you look at your motherboard specs, you will see it has 2.0 slots.

As far as performance, the HD6850 will perform better.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Wolfeking, i've ordered the parts, including the XFX6850.

I'll let you know how it all works out.
