Just a few hours ago I decided to download EVGA PrecisionX and overclock this old card I have in my current desktop while my laptop is down for repairs..

This is the first card I've ever Overclocked..

I originally worked in increments of 25 MHz which was a big mistake (and learning moment) but went back, first in 6's, then in 3's.

PNY 512MB GeForce 8400 GS:

Core Clock: 567 MHz
Memory Clock: 330 MHz

FINAL Overclock
Core Clock: 700 MHz
Memory Clock: 650 MHz

I reached the "max" stability at 698/648 respectively but decided to round up.

I've noticed a 15-20FPS increase in Minecraft, and Runescape runs smoothly on high for once.. I'm hoping to test this out with a few other low-intensity games soon.

Temperature increases about 15°C under load (highest temp is 73°C) and the Voltage was not increased.
Still scraping money together for my budget build :D

anddddddddd today I messed around and pushed it to 785/660... I'm getting a max of 60FPS and an average of 45FPS in Minecraft... The low is now ~25 where my max used to be :D :D :D

I think just about everybody has owned one of these cards at some point, including me. It's cool that you've overclocked it and it's running OK. :)

It's not that bad of a card for it's age.. There are limitations to it though :p

If its the Dimension 8300 with a 250W generic no brand POS PSU its very likely to go KABOOOM if overclocked... very likely.

It's a 300w PSU, I think. My dad did an upgrade back in the day... When he knew about computers (technology advances so quickly now)...
