GPU Overclocking

I'm new to overclocking, and as an owner of two GTX's, I feel it is my duty to push these cards to the limit. Using Powerstrip, I've managed to acheive speeds @ 661/1033. They appear to be stable, however, I'm not sure what program, or method, is best for gauging stability.

What is the best program for OC'ing GPU's? I've looked through the BIOS, and I don't believe I can make any adjustments there. Is Powersrtip good? I've tried nTune, and it doesn't work. What is the best method/program for testing stability?

Thanks,
Michael

ATITool. Has it's own artifacting checking unit. Great for overclockers

Ntune, Rivatuner.

yeah i second that ATI Tool is great, you can up the speeds slowly and keep checking for artifacts then raise them a little more:D

only problem with my damn card is...it has no temp sensor lol:P

lol. :P Oh the irony...using an ATI application to OC my nVidia GPU's. :D

Isnt 2X EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX powerfull enough already for you on stock speeds lol:D

i wouldnt void warrenty by overclocking just yet if i had an 8800:D

Warranty? What warranty?? Nah...if I don't see much improvement, I'll restore the cards to stock speeds. :D

you didnt get any sort of warrenty so if they go faulty you can send them back:confused:

I understand my warranty. ;) I've already OC'd the cards using Powerstrip. I'm not sure if briefly OC'ing the cards voids my warranty, however. From what I've read, you can safely overclock video cards without necessarily damaging them. Is this correct? If the cards last for two years, I'll no longer be concerned with the warranties. I'll have new GPU's.

ATI Tool can scan for artifacts, and overclock the GPU. I dont believe you can raise the voltage for the 8800 using ATI Tool (or any program). If you are experiencing artifacts then theres not a whole lot you can do, unless it's because of the temps, which can be solved by a better cooler.

Theres nothing in the BIOS for GPU overclocking.

Well you can always flash your graphics card BIOS so you can permanently overclock it, but only do that if you know what you are doing, otherwise stick with driver overclocking. I don't think you can overclock your graphics card via the system BIOS.

what's the best wayt o use the ATI program? I'm runningthe find max mem and core and my system always crahshes around 500 core. I decided running at 480 core is going to be alright(around 70-75C) I'm not sure how to test it by finding artifactsthough. any advice? there appears to be no readme and the forum for the site offer no basic usage tips either..:( It can't all be trial and error can it?

Click the "Look for artifacts". Do you see any out of place yellow colors? If so, it's getting too hot.

ah. shootit does that after about 5 min with hardly any overclocking. I really need to get some thermal crap and install my copper heatsink that i had on my old card.

Thanks for the feedback. :) Unfortunately, increasing the clock speeds has not yielded any significant performance gains. My 3DMark06 score has been unaffected as well. I'll probably restore the speeds back to defaults. :(
