ok first i will juat say i think all it needs is ram but i want a bit more info. so my grandmothers computer is only 2 years old. it has 512 mb ram but it is SLOW. i think it is a amd running at 1.5 maybe 2.5 cant rembore. so, i ran adaware. nothing, defraged, nothing, disk cleenup, nothing, mcafee, nothing. i think it is just low on ram but... what does everyone think here

define slow... :D

try setting the system to best performance. and use a black background.

right click my computer>properties>advanced>settings>best performance, apply

you'll have to define slow, then give us the processor model, the ram speed, the video card, that kind of stuff. with 512, unless your doing something much more intensive then internet, there is no need to have more, so it wont be the ram, but probably the processor

thanks. i will let it run and see if someone says something

ok. well i will try my best. prossesor amd sempron 2.0 ghz... wow nevermind with the 512 it is 192 mb of ram! it should be 512 i think. it has a onboard video card. win xp. also if you need something more.... it is a compaq sr1500nx.

slow: not deadly slow but something where it should be faster. takes 15 secounds to load something

edit ok the ram, 256mb ddr 400 mhz

You're definitely low on RAM. A friend of mine had 256MB and he added 512MB to it. His programs load a LOT faster now, and there's a lot less hard drive thrashing. Also, that onboard video eats up at least 32MB of that 256MB. Chances are, when you load Windows and before you load any apps, your RAM is already full.

512 ram would be the minimum for running XP with 1 gig being a good amount. If you have Vista 1 gig would be a minimum and 2 gigs a good amount.

No necessarily low on RAM (128MB Minumum)... Ive run XP on 160MB and it fairly fast. (Celeron 566)... Its supposed to be 256 recommend though.

Well the computers are slowing down with time and its normal, why ??

Well many different things might be a reason.

First the most obvious reason is mess on your hard drive which is slowing operation system which slows down whole PC.

Keep your hard drive (files) in order and u will be happy for a long time.

The other thing which might help is to clean radiator and fan on the CPU from dust.

The dust block access of fresh cold air and cause higher temperature on ure CPU, which might make ure system unstabile.

Also buy silver paste and clean the old one from your CPU and apply the new one.

By this you should reduce temperature of ure system by few degrees.
