I was downloading Googles widgets which I think has created a problem. The screen has gone large and the clours are funny. I went in to Control/display/settings and got this message 'The currently selected graphics display driver cannot be used. It was written for a previous version of Windows, and is no longer compatible with this version of windows. The system has been started using the default VGA driver. Please contact your hardware manufacturer to get an updated driver, or select one of the Microsoft provided drivers.' Any thoughts?

your description sounds like 16bit. goto control panel / performance maint/system/click the hardware tab then device manager. check and see if you have issues with video. you can delete it then let it detect it again. if that does not work then try the following below.
if you have a video card then reinstall the drivers from there.
if video from motherboard then reinstall drivers from that cd.
if you have a video card then reinstall the drivers from there.
if video from motherboard then reinstall drivers from that cd.
