Graphics Card Causes Freezing

For some reason, my graphics card has been causing my recent windows 7 freezing woes. I yanked it out and have been without issue. I fear that this might have to do with my mobo being nvidia ( all the drivers are Nvidia). My video card, (it's in my sig) is an ATi. What Can I do?

More importantly, did you remove the old drivers before installing the new card. Another option is that your power supply, as you suspect it is, is going dead.

That's likely your problem. You need to uninstall the old card first. Go to your control panel and uninstall the display adapter. Restart the machine and run driver sweeper to clean out the old mess of drivers from the old card. Then turn the machine back off and install your card. Once you boot into windows again, install the drivers for the card. You can either use the disk or the latest version from the AMD website. I'd recommend the latter.

it is not anything to do with the mobo being nvidia and the gpu being ati, i've got a nforce board with a HD4670 and, so far, i havent had a single issue perfect performance, much more likely to be a driver conflict like mentioned above. Another thing you may consider is that the psu is causing the problem, even though the 5570 is a low power card there still a chance and since your sig says

Rickety-old 500watt DiabloTech Powersupply that's about to blow up (still on 3 year warranty)

It's worth considering.

When you remove the old drivers i reccomend using something like revo unistaller to get rid of all the junk left behind.

Obviously choose the free one :)
