Graphics card choice tip?.

Hello everyone!
So I've got a pc from 2008. The parts are motherboard-asus p5e3 premium and cpu intel core 2 quad boath from around 2008(the best from 2008). My question is what is the best, most powerful graphics card compatible with this configuration that can support 3 monitors? Also I've got a problem with the power supply it is enermax 1000 wats and yesterday it got bad because there was black screen when i started the computer.there are 6 hdds 4 "pieces" of ram, 400w case with a monitor zalman pretty good sound card. So are 1000 w enough or around 1500 is better?
Thank you.

A lot of different things can cause a black screen, did you swap the PSU or did the issue resolve itself?

1000w is plenty even for crossfire cards. Also you might want to revise the 'best, most powerful GPU' approach. You could put a Titan X in your system if you wanted to, but that doesn't mean you should. Other component upgrades are equally as important for a system of that age.

Yes. I really dont want the best. I meant the best for this configuration considering the cpu etc that can handle 3 monitors . Also are every graphic cards be compatible with this motherboard.
Ps thanks for the quick reply

3 monitors for productivity or 3 monitors for surround gaming?

What kind of budget do you have?

There is one full hd monitor for doing the big stuff and the other two monitors are essentially not used. One of them is from the computer case and the other is just for internet etc. Nothing serious. The budget is not a problem.

If budget is not an issue I suggest starting a new build from scratch. Either way I suggest starting a new build from scratch, that hardware is highly outdated.

Well first its my dads computer . At that time the comp was 3000$ in parts and it was a beast. Wow. But giving the same value of money again is a problem. Like 1000$ upgrade is ok but not so much again. So actually budget is a problem for that. . If the gtx 980 isnt the best solution here, which I guess isnt what card would be good and compatible for this particular configuration.

It's asus eah3870 x2 1gb, but strangly enough since we are with this video card every game lags even nfs from 2005,4k videos wont play. Even though the system is old this is not ok. We've runned gta 4 on the pc, so yeah.

That's not right at all. Have you reinstalled Windows? I think the first step would be to get an SSD for your OS.

Give me a bit and I will put a build together for your budget of 1000$.

In the old days of 2008 the computer case(zalman was around 850$ and we already have 1000W power supply, but the idea of changing the cpu is actually nice. Ssd would be a great idea also. The problem is that I doubt that my father would want to make such big improvements, but i will talk with him:). Otherwise thanks for the tips. :)

Oh and also if we change only the processor and the graphics card would we need to change the current motherboars that in the old days was around 350$ :D

okay this is the mighty case i was talking about it is considerably small http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=193

Haha okay after a little bit of searching it i've reached in a conclusion that this motherboard wont be compatible with the latest cpu since it's compatible with the 45 nm cpu technology/ Am i right?:D

Not sure what boards you've been buying but they've generally stayed around the same range for a while now. I paid about the same for my nforce 2 Socket A board as you can get a new z97 board (~$90ish).

But, correct, you will have to buy another board. The socket is completely different for newer CPUs.
