Graphics card / monitor problem

Hey
I got a HD radeon 6850 a few weeks ago, and when i installed it i had some trouble with it and it turned out i needed a new cable to go from the monitor to the graphics card, i got that fixed and have been playing games but the other day the screen went black while i was in a game and i did ctrl alt del, but the mouse wouldn't work so i had to hold the off button.

when i turned it back on i could hear the graphics card fan going at maximum it was quite loud, but the screen wouldn't work, the red button would just flash like it can't recognise the computer. This happened before when the monitor cable wouldn't fit into the graphics card and i had to get a new one, now though the cable i have is running from the graphics card to the monitor like it should be and i'm not sure what's wrong.

I know if i was to keep turning it off and on it would eventually work, it happened before but i don't want to keep doing it incase it breaks it, what should i do?

is your psu enough to handle the card?, do you have the power connector in right, the 6 pin pcie cable?

have you tried reseating the card or the power cable?

The psu is enough i got one especially for this graphics card, i thought everything was in place correctly because i've been playing games with it ok and it's been working.

There are two sockets on my card for monitor cables and i've tried both of them still do the same thing
