Graphics Card/Monitor Problem

Ok I was using forcerefresh to get my monitor to run 100 hertz on 800 by 600 I am currently using a lcd dell monitor and my graphics card is a nvidia 6800. But the problem is I accidentally set my hertz to 240 hertz and it gave me the "cannot display video mode" error on my monitor and for some reason it wouldnt revert so I was forced to restart in safe mode and to disable my graphics card. Now the problem is I cannot get into my nvidia options to change the hertz back so I cannot turn on my graphics card and rest my computer or else it will just do the cannot display message.

So far I have tried reinstalling the latest drivers multiple times to no avail and I have tried to go into reg display options and set my monitor in advanced but its all unaccessible (grey) so I have no way of changing it back.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Or maybe a way to force my computer to run my monitor with like 75 or less hertz when I restart despite my nvidia options?

u can reset the cmos and see if that helps. unplug the power cord form the back of the comp and press the power button for 5 seconds. then open the case and take out the small circular battery from the motherboard. press the power button again for like 5 seconds, then wait about a minute or two. then put the battery back in, plug the comp back in, and power it on. this should reset whatever changes u made to the graphics settings. :)

thanks for the help but unfortunately it didnt do anything. I turned off my comp unlpugged the power cord held the front power button for 5 sec. Then i took out the little circle battery held power button for 5 sec. Then waited 2 mins plugged power cord back in and the whole monitor was choppy and had blocks off different colors so i turned comp on and off and it did its own setup thing then logged into xp like normal but as soon as it hits the desktop (i skip the choose user) it gives me the cannot display video mode message again.

Is there maybe some way to edit the nvidia files in the folder to set the refresh rates and stuff back to normal?

did u put the battery back in?

also, have u tried going into the menu button on the actual monitor and adjusting it from there?

ya i took it out set it down and then popped it back it u mean the little circlular one that is like a few cm thing or so and like an inchis wide? ya i tried to reset my monitors settings but it wont actually bring up the menu when it cannot display video mode, i memorized to reset factory settings it was the menu button right menu button right menu button but that still didnt work. :(

I doubt that reseting your bios is going to change a thing as it has nothing to do with your problem. Thing is I don't know much about LCDs but I thought they did not use screen refresh rates so I don't know how to go about this particular prob.

I would suggest to uninstal the drivers as you did but this time run driver cleaner http://www.drivercleaner.net/ and reinstall the latest drivers again.

Also wait to make sure that the screen refresh rates are not supposed to be grayed out in light of the fact that LCD's don't go by refresh rates... Again I don't know much about LCDs sorry.
