Graphics Card Problem

Hi all!

Irecently soft modded my gfx card, so that it would run 8 texture pipelines, instead of 4, thus majorly increasing the performance.

I'm not sure whether it did this before the softmodding (did it quite a while ago), but every now and then when I'm using mycomputer, it will just shut off.

Everything else is fine, and I know this ebcause I can still hear things through the headset, put the monitor displays a "No Signal" message.

I've got a feeling that my graphics card is overheating, which is causing it to switch off automatically.

Now, I have 2 questions:

1. How do I turn of this automatic overheating shutdown warning, or is it not worth turning the shutdown off?

2. Should I consider de-softmodding, or should I just get a new gfx card?

Thanks all!

Hi,

Quite often the "down-graded" video cards are down-graded for a reason. ie when ATI tested the chip, they found that one of the pipelines was malfunctioning. Consequently, they sold the chip as a lower spec and turned off the faulty pipeline. Therefore, by turning it back on you may be causing these probs because the chip was found to be faulty at manufacture and had the fault "turned off" (and sold as a lower-specced chip).

By de-soft modding, you may solve your probs.
