Graphics card running?

Hi,
I just bought a p-172s fx laptop from gateway.
it has 2 ghz and an nvidia 8800m gts.
It should easily be able to run KOTOR II (Knights of the old republic II), a low graphics game that came out way back in '05. For some reason though, I cannot play on highest settings without significant framerate jitters.
Is it possible my dedicated grpahics card isnt running? How do I check whether it is running off of integrated or dedicated. I have vista by the way.

Thanks for your help!

You have the 8800m GTS, there is no integrated video card in your laptop.

Check the nVidia control panel and make sure the settings are set to performance for AC power, not for power savings.

hmm

Is it possible the driver is the problem?
I have the latest gateway drivers, but have been looking into getting the latest forceware by getting a modded inf. Would that improve performance? And if so, would it harm my card at all, or void my warranty?
Thanks-

A modded inf is just a way of installing the drivers differently, and the default settings, stuff like that. Can help alittle with performance AND IQ (image quality), though the IQ improvement is usually just digital vibrance changes or some crap, you can do it yourself. It won't harm your card, and can't void your warranty. You might want to check out laptopvideo2go, they got some good stuff.

Changing the driver will help (and may be the problem) if the one you got is buggy or shitty. ;)

It should be able to run it.. I saw a demo of the exact same laptop at Best Buy and it was running Crysis (No Idea of the settings or resolution, some guy was hogging it :p)
