Graphics Card's chipset and memory

A graphic card peformance mainly depends on the graphic chipset or the memory ? Like ATI RADEON 9800 128 MB RAM AND 9600 256 MB RAM , please give me the best choice. Let say if i buy either one of this stuff for a contented graphic gameplay and less lagging game speed.

Radeon® 9600 technology is available in four product configurations built by ATI: Radeon® 9600 XT, Radeon® 9600 PRO, Radeon® 9600 and Radeon® 9600 SE. Product comparison

Radeon® 9800 technology is available in five product configurations built by ATI: Radeon® 9800 XT, Radeon® 9800 PRO 256MB, Radeon® 9800 PRO 128MB,Radeon® 9800 128MB and Radeon® 9800 LE 128MB. Product comparison

u get more graphic performace if the card has more pipelines and also the higher memory clock speed, high gpu clock speed isn't so important as the mem clock speed but of course the higher the better :-), and the best card out there for not so much money would be radeon 9800 pro the 128MB edition, it doesnt have to be ATI brand but i think that thats the best choice

Thanks a lot , but would that be an advantage if more memory on the graphic card to reduce the lagging problem ?

can u please tell me whats your budget and the card interface you want (AGP or PCI-E) cuz that would help me a lot, do you wanna buy video card over newegg, zipzoomfly etc. and can the card be some other model except 9600 and 9800, there are better cards out there.

i would go for the 6800 ;) it performs better as the 9600 one :)

Well obviously, but thats a pretty stupid comparison.

Except the 6600GT is a far superior card for 'not so much more'.

well...for some older cards, you might get more memory but the memory is slower, they do it to balance the price. So, if you want to reduce the lagging problem, the best bet is to buy a better card.

doesnt more memory mean it will handle games with better/higher detailed textures faster?

More VRAM allows for more textures & geometry data storage allowing the GPU to access it rapidly when needed. It doesn't speed up the actual processing however.

Oh , my budget is only allow to Radeon 9800 128 MB RAM . I was having a few lagging problems to play Doom 3 with RADEON 9200 128 MB RAM , 512 MB RAM,Pentium Celeron 2.4 Ghz .It mades me intended to upgrading the graphic card which I mentioned above and also adding the memory to 1 Gb. So it is better to buy RADEON 9800 128 MB RAM ,isn't it ? Besides, is there any other recommendations of AGP graphic cards which prices is similar to the options I gave ? Like nVidia series ...... Furthermore is that real, nvidia series is better than ATI ? I haven't use the nvidia series before ?

Of the two cards the 9800 is better, but I still think there are better options available. The 6600GT is a great card, but probably a little more expensive and perhaps overkill for a 2.4Ghz system, particularly if it's a Celeron. What's your budget? The vanilla 6600 might be a better buy.

If you want to play Doom3 you should consider a plain 6600 at the very least, but much better a 6600GT. What kind of Celeron is it? The S478 Celerons isn't very powerful when it comes to gaming due to their low amount of cache. Anyhow you will see an enormous improvement in your gaming with a GF6 series videocard regardless if your CPU is an old S478 or a newer more powerful CeleronD.

Your 9200 is crap to be honest, modern games like Doom3 will eat it alive.

'Overkill' ?? Is it means that my processor is not enough to support the 6600GT ??

He meant that your CPU may be to weak to fully utilize the power of a 6600GT. But as I stated you'll benefit greatly from a GF6 series card.

So , how could I fully utilize the power of GF6600 GT ? Replace a genuine Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz or even higher than that ?

Look, are you running a CeleronD 320 2.4Ghz or the older Celeron 2.4Ghz?

Don't take me wrong, the 6600/GT will work fine in either case, it's just that a Pentium 4 or a CeleronD CPU would make the system more 'balanced' performance wise.
