Graphics cards for vista?

how will i know if a graphics card will automatically work with windows vista? Do all cards work? will some cards only work? or do i need to try and get the drivers for the cards specifically?

You will probably need a new driver when vista comes out. It should say in the insturctions for your card, or on the box what operating systems it works with. Otherwise check the manufactures webstie (radeon, nvida, etc.) and look up your model number, that should tell you if its compatible and also have the latest drivers there.

Windows Vista can work with any video card.

But to run windows Aero interface you will need a video card that support pixel shader 2.0 and has 64MB video memory (you will need 128MB or more for high background resolution). Also, the video card should have WDDM Driver support

here is a screen shot for vista running on basic interface

and here the same screen shot running on Aero interface

Also, on Aero interface you be able to use Windows Flip 3D

And last thing I want to say is that you will able to use the Classic interface in vista, which looks like windows 2000.
