Looking at the 6800 gt and x800. I hear ati is beter with 2 texture nvidia is better with 2 texture..tru? Anyways, is it worth overclocking the 6800 gt or just getting the x800. My friend overclocked his 6800 gt and about a month or two later its lagin, crashing..? Anyways what would you recommend?

It really doesn't matter....you could try and find a comparison on the net, but 6800GT and the X800 are the latest of NVIDIA and ATI....if you like NVIDIA go with 6800GT and if you like ATI get a X800....u could even try different cards if you want :)

The 6800GT hands down left right and centre. Why?
1. The 6800GT is the "midrange" model. The X800 is the "baseline" model
2. The 6800GT has a 16/6 pipe structure. The X800 has a 12/6 structure
3. The 6800GT is often cheaper than the X800 (the X800 is sometimes -- as it should be -- noted as X800Pro)
4. PixelShader 3.0 (and thus DirectX9.0c) support on the 6800GT. Not so for ATI

Of course if you're uisng a TNT2 or something it doesnt matter much :)

It sounds like to me that he's more worried about clock speed.

the fact that the 6800GT has 16 pipes and the X800Pro has 12 pipes makes more difference then the clock speeds of the cards.

hehe just wanted to mention that it's too bad for your friend if somthing has happened to his card as they are expensive and I dont know of any game that requires more juice then the GT or higher. I run doom3 just fine at stock settings with my GT.

according to my friend he couldn't even run the 6800gt demo without overclocking it...?

This really makes no sense.
