Greater than 52x?

Just curious, is it possible to read/write faster than 52x? I mean, 52x is the fastest I've seen for read speeds, and 32x is the fastest I've seen for burning.

Is there some physical reason underlying it all that makes it so it can't possibly go any faster? Or is it such old technology that nobody cares about perfecting it anymore?

Just wondering. Thanks.

It will only read/write to the speed of the disc as Intel_man stated. But back in the day they had 54x read only drives. But I believe anything higher than that will shatter the disc.

How does 23,000RPM = 52x? I'm just curious how the math works.

And can they not create higher quality discs which are able to withstand more force as well as lasers which can read faster?

Sorry bout that. It was a late night and I wasn't thinking straight. I edited my post.
Found that 10,000 RPM = 52x my fault...But as I fixed my post above, there are some drives that go up to 60x
