on my new samsung monitor there are green dots appearing sometimes. It might be fine and then randoly starts up and wont't go away until i reboot for won't go away even after that. when i changed the mode on the monitor from custom to dynamic contrast, the position of the dots changed, and it usually starts when i open a video or game. now it started when i played an embeded utube vid. is this just a windows 7 issue or should i call samsung?

Try adjusting the Monitor refresh rate (In your Video card advanced properties section) to the highest refresh rate the Display can handle

Also try changing your Display settings to: 1920x1080

It wouldnt be a software issue so windows is out the question. Either a video card or monitor issue sounds like. How many green dots are we talking about and how big are they, 1 pixel or larger? Also how are the dots setup, in a line, or random places or what?

my monitor is set to the highest refresh and resolution possible. well i unplugged my desktop and then rebooted. it went away. when my computer was off i turned on the monitor. on the black no input screen where no dots
so its not the monitor. and they're in random places and move a little.

If the monitor is new return it and get a new one!

If you keep having the issues--no sense in struggling with a faulty piece of equipment.

If it's only happening when you're in Windows 7, then it could be a buggy graphics driver or your GPU could be overheating after long periods of usage, causing green artifacts to appear on screen... Try running XP or Linux and see if the same thing happens.

:)

i got the monitor in june so its pretty new. but i see no sense in returning it since when the computer is off, the monitor doesn't show the green dots. it only rarely happens when im on the computer for the whole day, so it might be an overuse issue like rambo said. what do you think?

Try a different graphics card first to rule it out. I had an ATI 1600pro that had color dots appear when windows booted up but after it reached the desktop they would go away. Put in a different card and it went away.

i was planning to upgrade the card since its a measley 128mb nvidia 8300gs. but i dont have the cash now and if i decide to upgrade itll be around February or May.

Yup green dots is usually a sign of bad Nvidia drivers. I had it with my 8600gt before Just update the drivers

Well why don't you try doing something I suggested and find out then? Even if it's just downloading a newer (or older) graphics driver. Do something to narrow the problem down a bit...

dude, i update the drivers after every time they dots show up. it shows up like once a month (not sure of the exact ratio). lol

your GPU could be overheating. Are you monitoring the temps? Green dots are also typical of faulty GPU memory. I would be running a graphics stress test to see if GPU is causing errors.
