New Member
I stumbled across your web site in an effort to remove "Antivirus 2009" that is causing all kinds of problems with my wife's computer. Everytime I try to download the program you have in the sticky, it redirects me to a site that will convieniently remove it for about $50.

Every web site designed to remove it gets highjacked before it even gets there and right back to the site that wants me to buy the removal tool.

I read the previous thread about how to remove it but have had no luck. Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated. Thanks.
 
Hello, are you able to download and run HiJackThis?
If you aren't able to run HiJackThis try renaming it to scanner.exe
If you also aren't able to run ComboFix try renaming it to wallpaper.exe

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply i will need:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running
 
Wow, that was a fast response...lol. Do you want me to Rename the links you have there or try to rename the antivirus program? Sorry if that's a dopey question but I am not a genius in these matters by any stretch...:)

If you're able to download them from the links and they don't work rename them. I only provided a link to ComboFix if it doesn't work try renaming it to scanner or something .exe :)

Here are some instructions for HiJackThis.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
 
I was able to download the cyber defender program but never saw an opportunity to "scan and save the log file"...can't find it anywhere.

What cyber defender program?

The only programs you should have downloaded if possible were; Malwarebytes', HiJackThis, ComboFix.

Everytime I click on any of the 3 links it sends me to a page that says "the page your looking for is unavailable". I also have not had any luck changing the names or saving the links to my desktop...not sure how to get the combofix on to my machine...

Let's try a different approach.

From you hijackthis log i see you have been infected over Kasza.

Please remove all programs associated with Kasza immediately.

Also try downloading ComdoFix from:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?znm1wmotwyu

When I try to download that file I get an error message about 30 seconds into i saying "You cannot rename Combofix as Combofix[1] Please use another name, preferbaly made up of alphanumeric numbers"

I also cannot find any files pertaining to Kasza anywhere on my machine. I looked in the programs and add or remove programs and nothing...any ideas of where it may be?.

Ah so you already have ComboFix, please run it again.

Well, I was able to run the combofix in safe mode and it seems as if the program is now gone. It deleted a bunch of files so I assume it was in there somewhere. I will keep my eye on it and hope it does not come back...
