I'm building my first computer this weekend, and was wondering the best way to prevent static discharge. I plan on buying an anti static strap but I don't know where to connect it. I have heard mixed opinions about connecting it to the psu (when it is plugged in, and switched off). I also have another pc I could connect it to (again should it be plugged in and switched off?) Others have said to connect it to the metal on the case (with no psu attached), but I don't see how this would help if I'm handling the motherboard outside of the case.
