GT650 - 1 or 2 GB ram?

I am considering buying alienware m14x with Geforce GT650 graphics card and I have the option of buying with either 1GB or 2 GB. I automatically want to buy 2GB, but I have heard that the graphics card does not really need more than 1GB. Is this true?

So should I spend 450 Norwegian Kroners (approximately 77 dollars) on the 2GB one?

All help and info is highly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Im not really sure about mobile chips but as a rule of thumb if its for gaming more vram is often better. Especially at higher res's like 1080. I believe battlefield 3 regularly uses over 1gb of vram at 1080.

That said i thought due to the GT and not GTX that the 650 wouldnt really be for gaming. But i dont know mobile chips so im probably wrong :P As a rule of thumb though go for the extra vram.

If the monitor is at 1080p (1920x1080) then it would help some, but really it isn't the strongest card and for that much i don't think it is at all worth it. I would recommend looking for a different website, alienware are so expensive, weird thing is that that is cheaper than it is here, looked it up and costs 100 dollars to go to 2gb

That's exactly it, because the screen is 1600x900, which doesn't require as much vram as 1920x1080. I was wondering if it still is worth it then ;o

Alienware is expensive, true, but I have some discounts, which makes it quite "buyable". I wouldn't even have considered it without those discounts xD

My question still is whether it need 2GB and if it is worth it :)

Personally,I would go with the 2gb version,I consider 1gb to be the minimum these days...games are getting more demanding!
