GTA V download problems...

Hey guys,

I recently bought GTA V on PC. I took the Social Club version, not through Steam. The problem I'm having is when I'm downloading the game (they call it an update...) I get stuck at 1.4GB and it's giving connection to the server errors... It won't go any further as after three or more errors it's actually giving me an actual error where I have to retry to connect to the server.

I've been looking for fixes online but deleting the x64(x).rbf where x is a letter has not fixed it... Anyone know how to get through this?

Have any luck? I heard a lot of issues around launch with people buying it through Social Club and not Steam. Their servers got slammed and couldn't keep up with everybody wanting to download it. Might be your issue as well. Steam servers seemed fine from my standpoint, but YMMV.

I simply don't see the reason not to use Steam anymore. I actually much prefer games to be through Steam, and will always choose that option when possible. It's too convenient and I never had a problem using a software to launch my games. Discs are a hassle and cloud saves are the bomb. Not that GTA V makes use of that. :/

How are you trying to download the game? Are you installing the game from the disks or from download from rockstar website? I have the same version tried installed by the disk and it never worked read online that you have to download it straight from rockstars social club website.

Bought the key on G2A so I downloaded the installer legally on the Rockstar website. I'm at the part where you "update" the game but I'm actually downloading 60GB so that's the actual game. At about 3GB it tells me it loses the connection and it never goes past that point. I tried the reddit solution where you look for duplicate files but I have none. I found another grey area solution that I'm still downloading but I have no way of knowing if this will work.

Ok somehow I fixed the issue by deleting the part and hash files of the last downloaded file. I am now at the tenth GB.

Update: issue isn't fixed, I am stuck at the fourteenth GB... Anybody has a solution to this? Bought the game two-three weeks ago and hasn't played it yet lol... Well done Rockstar!

It's a known problem:

The problem isn't coming from the computer but from the Social Club software which is re-downloading the same file over and over and having conflicts. I somehow managed to continue the download by deleting the Hash or part file but it's not working this time. I'm also doing that grey area option, I'll see if that works. I will test it again as soon as I come back home (probably will be able to try on thursday).

I'm not entirely sure how the download works with the social club login, but I'd start by removing absolutely any traces of GTA V, Social Club (including in other games like GTA IV), and then starting over completely.

Other than that you'll probably just have to contact Rockstar Support and see if they have anything to offer. They seem pretty useless though a lot of the time.

Game is 10/10 and online is in a much better state than it used to be. Hope you get it working.

Might be a shot in the dark, but you could request support to let you transfer your license to Steam so you can actually get it installed. Not sure if that would accomplish anything or if you even wan to, but might be worthwhile.

I ended up forking over the $60 for the Steam version. Worth it in my opinion as I've experienced 0 issues in the past 2 months.

Does R* acknowledge this if you open a ticket? They may have an alternative method or fix.

Well I lready spent 40 euros on that version, I don't plan on buying it again :/

I will post a support ticket on R* if my other option fails and see what they answer.

UPDATE:

Well I finally got it to work! I got the files somehow (not going to discuss this) and just copied and paste it in my GTA V folder. It then verified it when I launched Social Club and updated the outdated files. Game is working!
