GTX 260 with my system?

Hello. I've been thinking about upgrading the gpu in my system, but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea (see signature). I have an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @ 3.1 ghz presently, and I'm not sure how bad it will bottleneck.

I think the psu can just handle it, its 500w and 36a on the rails. According to the guidelines on this forum it should work, but its like at its limit, so I don't know.

I'm actually pretty happy with the systems present performance, but I never mind trying to make it a little better, you know? I don't have the money to change the motherboard, cpu, etc. I will in the future, but the system isn't real old, so I'm not going for it right now. Does anyone know if I'll see any improvement if I was to install a GTX 260? Thanks.

you will see an improvement with that gpu over the 8800gt no doubt, but im unsure if your cpu willbe a bottleneck...

i am sure the gtx260 is rated next to the ati 4850....

is the 36amps total for your whole psu or just for the 12volt rail (s)

Hey wow thanks for the quick reply. The 36A is the combined amperage for just the 2 12v rails.

Do you think it would be better to invest in a cpu and a motherboard over a video card? I mean to you think the 8800GT is being kind of "held back" by the 6000+? Thanks for your help.

no i think the 8800gt is a good match for the 6000+....

im not sure on the capabilitys with the 6000+ and graphics cards, i have a 8800gt and although it will play most games the frame rate is low!

i did have the 6000+ with a 7950gt and it was a good rig but like i say im not sure on what would suit the 6000+ gpu wise!

both the cpu and gpu are old (not saying crap) but as soon as you start demanding more they start to show there age!

Ok sure. Yeah they run pretty good but idk. I wonder how the phenom x3s are? I should ask that in another forum though lol.
