GTX 680 not all its made out to be

Just got this 680 and havent had the chance to throw many games at it just BF3 and borderlands and they seem to run fairly well.

But i just bought arkham city game of the year edition and im lucky to get 50-60 FPS I seriously get frame drops to about 15-20.... Im pretty unimpressed with this cards performance seeing as how much it costed me. Possibly might return it.

What cards could i run in SLI for about the same price?

Why would you go sli over a single gtx 680 :/

If i were you id start looking at software issues, or maybe a faulty piece of hardware,

You should be smashing everything with that card.

Is everything on your system fully up to date?

Arkham city is a very graphic game and it is known to have issues IIRC when you use full DX11 with tessellation so it isn't really the gpu as much as the game.

Yup newest drivers said to run batman arkham 18% better, Everything up to date.... Feels like this card was expensive for the performance i am getting

Havent ever played any batman games, superheros arnt my thing. But I can assure you, the 680 is worth its price.

As said by "680FTW" lol, I like the card an everything anyway i can test if its faulty because im getting crazy FPS drops in batman

try using OCCT on it or Furmark, if you get artifacts its bad, otherwise id say its just the games not optimized for it.

Not to sure about that. A 670 will give you with-in 5% of the performance of a 680 for $100+ less. But still, the OP should be get better min. fps, 15-20? Something else is at fault.

Edit: Personaly, I would've got the 7970 over the 680. The 7970 comes with 3GB(standard) ram, over $50 cheaper with the same performance as the 680. For you to get more then 2GB of ram on a 680, you have to spend $120-150 more then the 7970.

If you have overclocked your CPU, remove the overclock and see if the problem persists. Same for any overclocks on the card itself.

Curious to know how to turn this PhysX Off?
Wouldn't it reduce the gaming visuals as some games are heavily reliant, or if anything, gain boost from PhysX?

PhysX mainly handles liquid geometry and floating bits and stuff, look up borderlands 2 physX and it shows it, that's basically all it does.

Nvidia control panel

The PhysX takes physics processing off the CPU and loads it onto the GPU instead. As the GPU is far more powerful, it allows not only for some processor time to be freed, but for more realistic physics, rather than better graphics.

If you have played Batman, with Physx on look at his cape when you move or turn. Turn it off and then look.

In Mafia II, look at the cloth in the back of some trucks, or your long coat when either moves, or compare the amount of debris with PhysX on and off.

So, a game with no support for PhysX would NOT benefit from PhysX feature at all then?

If a game doesn't support PhysX, there will be no difference between PhysX on or off. You can't force it, if the engine doesn't support it or if the game doesn't have the feature, whether it is on or off, whether you have Nvidia or AMD (Physx is a Nvidia only feature), it will make 0 difference.

@OP, The 680 is a great card, it is the most powerful single GPU card available. Games and software will come out that are beyond it's limits though, where the only way to max them is with more than one powerful card in SLI, or for when the next generation of cards come out.

The 680 isn't under rated, you just expect too much from it, much like the 8800GTX when Crysis came out and people where whining then that they couldn't max it with stable frames

just return it and buy 2 gtx 690. then you wont have no more problems.

Great Idea, Ill go rob a pimp on bay street right now and BRB!

But seriously, Im pretty sure im just a whiner, All my other games run great (BF3,BORDERLANDS2,CSGO<LOL) I read that this game was just horribly designed for DX11. did a couple background process tweaks And it usually runs around 40-60 fps, But still has RETARDED FPS drops too about 10-15.

I did some research and it seems the game is inevitable to do that even with a GTX 690.. So im not mad and i apologize to my beautiful 680 and all other 680 owners :P
