GTX 770 for 1440p?

I'm building a new machine and decided to go with a Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB. I plan on buying another one in the next month or two when I have the funds for SLI. I don't know a lot about monitors and such, so I had a couple of questions regarding gaming performance @1440p with this card.

Firstly...will a single 770 4GB be enough to get at least 60FPS when running a game with generally high settings? I understand it's not going to max the game on Ultra with AA and everything else on, but I'd like to play it high enough to look very good.

Secondly...would adding another 770 in SLI even make a difference? I've done a little Google searching and found some people seem to think it does, while others disagree. I really don't know, so I'd like some input on it.

well, I am on the brink of purchasing a 1440p monitor myself. in the next month I should be ready to order one. id say having another 770 will make a difference. currently im using 2 x 670 4 gig cards and I can tell the difference at 1080p when running certain games. crisis 3 and other shooter games will benefit from 2 cards running it all maxed out with eye candy, especialy at 1440p. id say go for another 770 4 gig card. you'll be happy you did. at least im very happy with purchasing my 2nd 670 4 gig card. at 1080p when playing crisis 3, I couldn't max the game out all the way, without being stuck at around 35fps. now that I am running 2 cards, I get over 60fps constantly with all settings at there highest. at 1080p playing cod ghost with 2 cards all maxed out I get up to 75fps, so at 1440p it will be a little less, but deffinatly 2 cards will be better than one for this game as well. now, ive heard that when running 1440p resolution, you wont have to turn up all the anti aliasing and stuff since your running at a higher resolution, hence taking it easier on your card(s). this I do not know as of yet. but knowing I have the gpu power to do so through having 2 cards is comforting enough to had make the purchase for 2 cards. don't worry about micro stuttering and all of those things people may say about running 2 cards together. I have sli'd many times and have yet to experience any issues with it. its always been a great experience and will more than likely always use dual gpu's together through out my future builds.

SLI scales at almost 100% these days so yes, it wlll almost double your performance, provided that is, you have a sufficiently good PSU, a CPU that has enough PCIe lanes and a motherboard that will allow all of this to work together.

I ended up getting the i7-4770K, a Corsair 1000W PSU, and the ASUS Maximus VI Hero board. Would OC'ing the CPU offer any benefit to the game or would I really only see that in heavily threaded applications like Sony Vegas or something when I'm editing videos?

Overclocking a CPU wouldn't help that much in games that are GPU dependent, but to the games that are CPU dependent you might see a small improvement I.E Skyrim. You would only really see the benefit of overclocking in editing programs like sony vegas. However, when rendering in sony vegas if you use "Gpu Acceleration" it should render much faster. Allocating more RAM could help as well, hence why most editing PC's have 16Gigs or 32Gigs of RAM.

While I wouldn't really call BF4 CPU dependent, it definitely benefits from a modern CPU a lot more then other games. But anyways, a 770 will be good for 1440p. That said, it was a bad idea to go with a 770 4 GB, as it's very close in price to a 780 3 GB, and a 780 will perform a lot better, the extra performance will help a lot more then the extra 1 GB of vRam.
