I have two computers, com a and com b. Com a is installed with win xp pro and com b win xp home. Recently..com a's motherboard has some internal voltage problems and the whole com won't boot. Com a is my main com and all my songs, family photos and videos are in it. I removed the hard disk from com a and insert in to com b. Now com b has two hard disk. One its original com b and the other from com a. After booting com b, i tried to access my com a harddisk, account alpha which consists of the photos, it gave these messages.."E:\Documents and Settings\Alpha\Desktop" "Access is denied". I tried access the other account, beta "E:\Documents and Settings\Beta" from the com a harddisk and it worked. I can access those files. I figured out that it is probably due to the password i set for account alpha. I tried to copy all the files from E:\Documents and Settings\Alpha\Desktop using the western digital utility. It worked. I managed to copy but after that i still can't access, modify or move those files. Is there anyway to remove the password of account alpha using com b? or juz make those files in account alpha accessible?

Is the account you are using an admin account? Becuase windows XP even if it isnt on the primary drive (which seems the case with you) will still block you from going to certain areas..such as documents and settings...if you right click the drive in my computer somewhere in the properties is a box or setting that allows you too access the files...so long as your on an admin account.

isssit?

ya..alpha is the admin account, hmmm..is there anyway to access the "E:\Documents and Settings\Alpha"? i can copy it..juz cant move it, modify or access..i can access "E:\Documents and Settings\Beta" though..

Thats because the Alpha account is private i guess, like i said in the other post, you can use the backup tool in system tools if worst comes worst.Just make sure when you run it,run it in advanced mode and when you open your backup untick the security option...

it is his choice that he made it private because it isnt private by default. you have to go and modify the profile to make the documents folder private :)

thnx

hey guys, thnx for ur suggestion. I tried ur way but it din work. I found another way. In case any of u all is having the same prob, try using arconis true image, its terriffic, u can juz back it up first then restore. It uses a different copying method hence bypassing some sercurity settings..try iy..
