Hackers access into your computer?

Can anybody tell me in what way hackers get into your computer? I always thought that if you stick with legitimate websites, like Amazon, or eBay you were safe. It was only when you start venturing around on the internet and opened unknown websites, you were vulnerable. Or if you were opening emails from unknown persons, you were taking a chance.
The question is, if you knowingly only used known websites, and you opened only emails from known persons or businesses, are you safe of any hackers?
Any comments anyone?

I believe I've gotten malicious stuff put on from javascript or video advertisements, even on main popular sites. Tough to verify though.

Have javascript disabled now which helps.

Just use Sandboxie and NoScript. NoScrip is available for Firefox, Pale Moon and Cyberfox. You can disable NoScript so it isn't as cumbersome and allow basic protection.

There are other ways you can be hacked. Many ways....
